Jason Darnall of Benton was honored during the Kentucky/Alabama basketball game at Rupp Arena Saturday for an accomplishment few have attained. On June 18, 2017 Darnall completed his goal of running a marathon on all seven of the world’s continents. In September 2014, Jason earned what is known as “the crown jewel of race medals”, one of the most exclusive and impressive medals in running, given to Six Star Finishers who have completed the World Marathon Six Majors.

Darnall is the Marshall County Assistant Attorney and a proud University of Kentucky alumnus who accomplished this feat while wearing the same University of Kentucky t-shirt in each of the World Marathon Six Majors and seven continents. The six major marathons are Boston Marathon, New York Marathon, Chicago Marathon, London Marathon, Tokyo Marathon and Berlin Marathon.

In his interview with Marshall County Daily in June 2017, Darnall said he believes there are just two Kentuckians that have completed the seven continents but thinks he is the first runner from Kentucky to do all seven continents and all six world majors. He is most proud of his personal record of 2:56.36 set in Chicago in October 2012, a sub three-hour milestone only two percent of marathon runners who toe the line will achieve.
