Region I swimming prelims and finals were held Friday and Saturday at the Paducah Athletic Club. Marshall County swimmers set numerous personal best times and a new school record was set in the girl’s 200 Medley Relay during Friday’s prelims. The old record of 2:06.43 set in 2005 was broken with a time of 2:05.20 by team members Sofia Bayer, Mary Grace Thompson, Madelyn Travis and Clara Bradley.
Marshall County’s girl’s and boy’s teams finished sixth which placed the team sixth overall in combined scoring. No swimmer qualified for the state meet but it was a great effort with great results for the team which travels three days a week to Murray State to practice and due to inclement weather and the Jan. 23 tragedy, had limited practice time leading up to the regional meet.
