Area law enforcement arrest fugitive accused of rape

Area law enforcement have partnered with the U.S. Marshals service to bring a man wanted on suspicion of crimes against a minor into custody.

According to the Graves County Sheriff’s Office, about 2:23 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, deputies with GCSO, McCracken County and Marshall County Sheriffs’ offices partnered with U.S. Marshals to arrest Carlos Simon Escamilla at a residence at 628 S. 8th St. in Mayfield. Escamilla was wanted in San Diego, Calif., on charges of rape of a minor and three other sexual offenses, including kidnapping, according to GCSO.

Escamilla was taken to the Graves County Jail on a local charge of fugitive from justice; his bail was set on the original warrant from San Diego, Calif., at $1 million.
