Lane & 8 ft Load Width Restriction on US 68/KY 89 Lake Barkley Bridge on TUES, Nov 28

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans a daytime work zone lane and 8 ft. load width restriction on the existing US 68/KY 80 Lake Barkley Bridge at Canton in TRIGG County on Tuesday, November 28, 2017.

Traffic on the Lake Barkley Bridge will be restricted to one lane starting at 9 a.m., CST, on Tuesday to allow use of a UBIV- Under Bridge Inspection Vehicle to remove sensors from the bridge substructure.  The sensors were placed on the existing bridge to monitor for potential movement during early excavations for construction of the new bridge immediately down stream.

The lane and 8 ft. load width restriction is expected to be in place on the US 68/KY 80 Lake Barkley Bridge for about 4 to 5 hours on Tuesday. Some delays are possible during the movement and positioning of equipment to facilitate the work.

Appropriate caution is required where equipment, flaggers, and maintenance personnel are on the bridge deck in close proximity to traffic flow.

The US 68/KY 80 Lake Barkley Bridge at Canton is located at US 68 mile point 8.596 in Trigg County and serves as the eastern entrance to Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area.  The bridge is at Cumberland River navigational mile point 63.1

PCL Civil Construction of Denver is the prime contractor on the $128.3 million project to construct a new Lake Barkley Bridge. The new bridge is expected to be ready for 2-lane traffic sometime in the spring of 2018
with finish work on the new bridge continuing through 2018.

The existing US 68/KY 80 Cumberland River/Lake Barkley Bridge, also known as the Lawrence Memorial Bridge and the Canton Bridge, carries approximately 3,000 vehicles across Lake Barkley/The Cumberland River in
an average day.
