CFS falls to Ballard Memorial in first round of regional tournament

A season that began on a 16 game win streak, ended Tuesday in the 1st Region Tournament to Ballard Memorial in the first round at Graves County. The Lady Eagles fell behind in the first two games 25-21 and 25-9 then picked up a win in the third set 25-15 before falling in the fourth set 25-21 to the Lady Bombers.

The Lady Eagles beat the Lady Bombers twice during the regular season but the Lady Bombers, under 11-year Head Coach Adam Solomon, were not going to go down in the third meeting between the two squads.

Christian Fellowship Coach Suzie Burnett was selected as Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association Region 1 Coach of the Year with a Lady Eagles 4th District Champion team that finished 27-8, second best record in Region 1 behind McCracken County. A young team that will lose just one senior, Sarah Muller. Muller finished her career with four aces, one kill and five blocks.

Sophomore Abigail Cima led in kills with eight, 17 digs, two blocks and one ace. Sophomore Maggie Wagner had six kills, two blocks, seven digs and on ace. Sophomore Emma Alexander had 13 assists, six digs and two aces. Freshman Emma Fletcher had nine digs, two kills and one ace. Sophomore Lexi Hovekamp had three digs, two aces and one kill while junior Kenzie Murdock had one kill and one ace.

Ballard Memorial moves on to play Community Christian Academy in the second semi-final on Wednesday, a 3-0 winner over Hickman County, and the first semi-final game Wednesday will be McCracken County against Graves County. The winners of these two games will play in the Region 1 Championship on Thursday at 6:00.
