Night lane restriction to begin this evening near Calvert City

A contractor for The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) plans a night lane restriction for eastbound traffic on Interstate 24 in the Interstate 24/Purchase Parkway Exit 25 Interchange work zone in Marshall County tonight and Thursday night, Oct. 18-19.

Eastbound I-24 traffic will be restricted to one lane during overnight hours tonight and Thursday night to allow diamond grinding to smooth the deck on the new eastbound overpass that crosses what will be the future southbound lanes of Interstate 69 in the reconstructed interchange.

This night lane restriction for eastbound I-24 traffic in the Exit 25 Interchange will be in place from about 6:30 p.m. to 6 a.m.tonight and Thursday night. Eastbound motorists traveling I-24 should be prepared to encounter slowing and merging traffic as they approach the I-24 Exit 25 Interchange at Calvert City.

Delays should be minimal as traffic decreases through the evening and night hours.  Eastbound motorists should use appropriate caution where equipment, flaggers, and construction personnel are along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.

The work zone includes a 55 mph speed limit with an enhanced enforcement presence and double fines for citations.

As a reminder, westbound I-24 traffic is running on a diversion through this work zone between I-24 Exit 27 and Exit 25.  This construction corridor has a high level of ongoing construction activity.

Jim Smith Contracting of Grand Rivers is the prime contractor on the $37.8 million interchange reconstruction project.  The new I-24/I-69 interchange at Calvert City has a target completion date of July 1, 2018.
