Lady Marshals finish sixth at KHSAA Girl’s State Golf Championships

Day one dawned early for the Lady Marshals Friday with the first player teeing off at 7:45 a.m. at the KHSAA Girl’s State Golf Championships at Bowling Green Country Club. The Lady Marshals, paired with players from Sacred Heart and Ryle, finished 7th after all teams were in the club house, among the lowest 11 team scores that made the cut for day two.

They were led by Hallie Riley at +8 (80), Savannah Howell +10 (82), Megan Hertter +12 (84), Kenley Luksic +19 (91) and Kennadi Spraggs +25 (97). Murray, the Region One runner-up, also made the cut for day two, led by Delaney Welch with a round of 81.

Paired with Shelby County and Barren County, the Lady Marshals finished day two of the state tournament four strokes better than day one to finish sixth overall (337-333=670). Sacred Heart won the team state title (302-315=617) by 36 strokes over second place Scott County (332-321=653), third place went to Ryle (328-334=662) and Murray placed seventh (341-343=684).

Sacred Heart’s Ryan Bender won the individual state title, finishing +4 (71-77=148) and teammate Taylor Edlin finished tied for second at +5 (74-75=149) with Sarah Hinton of Elizabethtown (72-77=149).
