Benton Fire Department remained on scene of an apartment fire Wednesday morning in Benton.

Multiple Marshall County fire crews responded about 6:48 a.m. Wednesday at the Allendale Apartments at 1721 Golf Course Road in Benton, after a resident who had been outside cleaning her door to prepare for crews to come in and pressure wash the building noticed the flames. Residents evacuated the building, and Emergency Management Director Curt Curtner said no injuries were reported in the incident.

The fire was under control before noon, Curtner said, and additional responding agencies were being released from the scene. In addition, volunteers from area businesses and relief groups were on scene. Benton Pharmacy, Curtner said, provided medication and oxygen to those tenants who lost their prescriptions and CPAP in the fire. Red Cross representatives were also working to provide relief to residents.

No injuries were reported in the incident, and no one was taken to the hospital for related trauma. However, Curtner said the building was a total loss.

Benton Mayor Rita Dotson said there were 23 tenants living in the building at the time of the blaze. Officials are working to obtain temporary housing for those affected, she said.

The incident may lead to decreased water pressure in city limits, as well, Dotson said via social media. Residents experiencing water service loss should call City Hall at 270-527-8677.

The cause of the fire was not known as of noon Wednesday.
