Sheriff’s department makes child pornography, abuse arrests

Marshall County Sheriff’s report, Sept. 19, 2017:

On Saturday Sept. 16 Deputy Josh Anderson observed a vehicle on US Hwy 68 E in Fairdealing swerving all over the roadway crossing his entire vehicle into oncoming traffic.Deputy Anderson conducted a traffic stop and observed a strong odor of alcohol with several empty alcohol cans in the bed of the truck. The field sobriety test was given that indicated the subject to be under the influence. Located in the back floor board was an open beer can that still was half full. Trace E. Wyatt 20 was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence, Speeding 24 MPH Over Limit, No Registration Plates and Reckless Driving.

On Friday Sept. 15 Deputy Dennis Lewis responded to a domestic disturbance on US 68 E. Upon speaking to the female involved, Deputy Lewis observed the female to have an injury that was to be from the male subject hitting her. The male subject also had an injury that was given to him by the female subject. Both parties involved stated that each assaulted the other. Stephen J. Odom 45, of Benton, and Jocelyn E. Warchol 31, of Benton, were arrested and charged with Assault 4th Degree Domestic Violence.

On Friday, Sept. 15, a man identified as Billie J. Harper of Benton came to the Sheriff’s Office to speak to the officer about an unrelated matter. The Deputy noticed that he appeared under the influence and discovered that he had been drinking and had taken Valium as well prior to coming in the Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Steven Oakley arrested Harper and charged him with Alcohol Intoxication in a Public Place and lodged him in the Marshall County Detention Center.

On Thursday, Sept. 14 Deputy Barry Howell served Richard A. Jackson of Benton an Indictment Warrant charging him with Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense Drug Unspecified and Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st Degree Methamphetamine.

On Thursday, Sept. 14 Deputy Barry Howell served a McCracken County District Bench Warrant for Failure to Appear. The warrant was served on Mallory D. Langston of Paducah.

On Friday, Sept. 15, Deputy William Strader served an indictment warrant charging William A. Artis of Benton with Failure to Report Child Depend Neglect / Abuse 1st Off and Possess / View Matter Portray Sexual Performance by Minor.

On Thursday, Sept. 14 Det. Nathan Maxlow served an indictment warrant charging Mamie M Artis of Benton with Criminal Abuse 1st Degree – Child 12 or Under, Failure to Report Child Depend Neglect / Abuse 1st Off, Possess / View Matter portray Sexual Performance by Minor, and Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree

On Tuesday, Sept. 12 at approximately 6:45pm, Sgt. Tim Reynolds responded to Arbor Village in reference to a man threatening someone. Upon arrival he was referred to an area behind the apartments where he found a 70-year-old male laying on his side in a puddle of water and another male, identified as Frank W. Beard, 54, of Benton, standing over him while being held back by witnesses. Beard was arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct and Alcohol Intoxication. He was lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center.

On Wednesday, Sept. 13 at approximately 2:30 a.m., Sgt. Tim Reynolds responded to Ridge Road in reference to a house fire. During the investigation a quantity of Marijuana and various items of paraphernalia were found. The tenant, Hillary Morgan Copeland of Gilbertsville, was cited for Possession of Marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia – Buy / Poss and is to appear in Marshall District Court next month.

Deputy Jason Ivey served an indictment warrant today for Shelby County Circuit Court. Shawn C. Wright of Frankfort was charged with Promoting Contraband 1st Degree.

On Tuesday, Sept. 12 Deputy Jason Ivey served an indictment warrant out of Livingston County. Colton W. Williams of Gilbertsville was charged with Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree, 1st Offense ( Methamphetamine ), Tampering With Physical Evidence, and Drug Paraphernalia – Buy / Poss.

For the week of Sept. 11-18, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following: 16 Traffic Accidents, 6 Traffic Stops, 8 Motorist Assists, 1 DUI, 1 Reckless Driver, 61 Extra Patrol Requests, 8 Animal Complaints, 2 Assaults, 6 Burglary/Theft Reports, 5 Disturbances, 8 Domestic Disturbances, 1 EPO Served, 9 Investigations, 5 Drug Investigations, 1 Public Intoxication, 8 Complaints, 28 Have a Deputy Call, 2 Welfare Checks, 14 Warrants Served and 16 Civils attempted contributing to 371 calls responded to.

For the week of Sept. 11 the Marshall County Court Security attended 15 court sessions, moved 26 inmates to and from court, checked 2481 people into the Judicial Building, Transported 11 inmates out of the county, transported 2 juveniles out of the county, 1 mental transport and 48 vehicle inspections.
