Calloway earns top honors at Marshall-hosted Star Fest; Marshals compete again Saturday at Graves

The Marching Marshals perform in exhibition Saturday at Star Fest.

The Calloway County Laker Band took home top honors at this year’s Marshall County Star Fest at MCHS in Draffenville.

The Lakers competed against bands from Lyon County, Crittenden County and Mayfield high schools to take Grand Champion honors at the annual event with a combined score of 68.2. Mayfield High School earned Reserve Grand Champion honors with a combined score of 62.05. Both bands earned a proficient rating from judges.

The Marshals closed the evening’s events with a exhibition of their own show, “Haunted.” The Marching Marshals return to competition next week at the Screaming Eagle Marching Band Competition at Graves County High School in Mayfield. The contest will feature performances from six area bands: Paducah Tilghman, Mayfield, Crittenden County, Henry County, McCracken County and Marshall County. The Graves County Screamin’ Eagle band will perform in exhibition.

Opening ceremonies will begin at 5:45 p.m.; first performances begin at 6 p.m. The Marching Marshals are scheduled to perform at 7:30 p.m.
