Marshals fourth at Union County Invitational

Jay Nimmo led the Marshals in their fourth place finish at the Union County Invitational.

Marshall County’s boy’s golf team traveled to Morganfield, Ky. in Union County to play in the Union County Invitational tournament Saturday. The Marshals tied with Henderson County for 4th place in the 15 team tournament held at Breckinridge Golf Course.

The tournament was won by host Union County with a team score of 310 followed by McCracken County with a score of 311.  Daviess County placed third with 316 and Marshall County and Henderson County each shot 326.

Medalist honors was decided in a playoff between Daniel Love of Daviess County and Grant Puckett of Webster County, both finished their regulation round at even par 72. Love won the playoff over Puckett to win the individual title. Third place went to Garrett Crabtree of Hancock County.

Jay Nimmo led the Marshals with a 4-0ver 76 followed by Tyler Powell with 81, Camdyn McLeod 84, Nathan Clark 87 and Drake Butler 91.

“On this particular Saturday we didn’t play some of our best golf, however it is always good to play good competition”, Coach Keith Bell said. “The wind picked up during the round and I think it had an impact on wrong club selection for some players and there were also a few holes that forced players to think hard about ball placement.”

Bell said Drake Butler stepped in as their #5 player and gained some valuable tournament experience, replacing Grant Hackney who is resting a sore back.

“We are less than one month away from the boys regional tournament…I still have a really good feeling about our chances at the regional tournament”, Bell said. “We just need to continue to work hard……especially on the mental aspect when things go wrong during a round…..mental toughness is so important in golf.”

Bell said the team has one goal and that is making it back to the state tournament in Bowling Green for the third straight year and his players will do everything possible to achieve that goal.
