Benton men arrested in synthetic marijuana trafficking

Two local men are facing charges after a search yielded more than 70 bags of synthetic marijuana.

According to Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, police received a tip alleging drug trafficking at a residence at 4275 Lakeview Church Road in Benton. Deputies, assisted by Murray Police Department officers, executed a search warrant Thursday at the residence and allegedly discovered more than 70 bags of synthetic marijuana, digital scales, packaging materials, schedule II prescription drugs and more than $9,000 cash. The estimated street value of substances found was more than $3,500.

Police arrested Billy Doane and Thomas Hines, both of Benton, in connection to the allegations.

Doane was charged on suspicion of trafficking in synthetic drugs, first offense, and possession of marijuana.

Hines was charged with conspiracy trafficking in synthetic drugs, first offense, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of synthetic drugs, first offense.

Both were housed in Marshall County Detention Center. Additional charges may be pending.
