Victim identified in Thursday drowning on Kentucky Lake

A Colorado man drowned Thursday in Kentucky Lake.

Marshall County Deputy Coroner Barry Taylor released the identity of the victim — Erwin Barbre, 74, of Colorado — following an open records request filed Monday.

Taylor said in a previous interview no foul play or other medical issues were suspected in the incident. No autopsy was scheduled.

Marshall County Rescue Squad and first responders were dispatched about 6 p.m. Thursday in reference to a missing elderly man near a home on Cemetery Hills Lane. Marshall County Sheriff Kevin Byars said family members called emergency services after they discovered Barbre was missing and located a shoe and hat on the boat dock located at their summer residence. Responders initiated a search thereafter, Byars said.

Barbre was recovered from the water deceased about 7:30 p.m. near the suspected point of entry.

Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Fairdealing-Olive Fire Department, East Marshall Fire Department, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources and the Marshall County Coroner’s Office responded on scene.
