Nine hole disc golf course to be constructed at Benton’s H.H. Lovett Park

Disc golf enthusiasts in the area will soon have another course in which to hone their skills. The Benton City Council approved the construction of a 9-hole disc golf course at H.H. Lovett Park. H.B. Clark, disc golf course architect, will design and lay out the course and concrete work will be done by the city.

Benton Mayor Rita Dotson said the council began a search for hole sponsors to help defray the cost but when council member Rita Murray approached CFSB, they agreed to absorb the entire cost of the course construction. Mayor Dotson said course construction is expected to begin in the very near future.

Similar to golf, disc golf is most often played on courses with nine to 18 holes. The disc is thrown from a “tee” towards a target which continues until the disc is in the target. The object, like golf, is to get through the course with the lowest number of total throws.

The growth of disc golf has been on the rise for several years now with major retailers taking notice, most offering discs and related merchandise for the sport which according to Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) is exploding in popularity.
