Lady Marshals fall 2-1 to Calloway in 4th District Championship

In the first five innings of the 4th District Softball Championship game, neither team could get much going offensively with the Lady Marshals leaving a runner stranded in each of the first four innings.

Calloway County, who advanced to the title game following a 5-4 win over Murray, was the first to get on the board in the top of the sixth inning, scoring two runs on doubles by Paige Kramer and Anna Carter.

A solo home run by Payton Smothers in the bottom of the sixth gave the Lady Marshals their only run of the game, leaving a runner stranded in the seventh inning in their 2-1 loss.

Laken Kelso got the win on the mound in seven inning, allowing six hits, one run and striking out six batters.

Both teams will move on to next week’s Regional Tournament at Murray.
