Gillespie released as Marshall County boys basketball coach

DRAFFENVILLE – Gus Gillespie, Head Boy’s Basketball Coach at Marshall County High School for the past 13 seasons, was released from that position Thursday afternoon, according to a press release from Marshall County High School.

Gillespie guided the Marshals to eight District 4 Championships and two Region 1 Championships. He guided the Marshals to the Regional Championship game three other times, with two of those losses coming in overtime games. His 2012 Regional Championship team established the program record for most wins in a season with 32. Gillespie’s 2011 team won the program’s first Regional Championship in 16 years and reached the state quarterfinals.

Gillespie’s 293 wins with the Marshals are the most in the history of the Marshall County boy’s program. Gillespie told WCBL Sports that he has enjoyed his time at Marshall County and would like to thank all of his players and assistant coaches during these 13 seasons.

The press release from Marshall County High School said the search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
