Marshals beat St. Mary, win two Saturday in Dyersburg

DYERSBURG, Tn – The Marshals are off to an early 3-0 start after picking up wins over St. Mary on Thursday and two wins at Dyersburg, TN on Saturday over Millington, TN and Dyersburg.

In their first regular season game Thursday at St. Mary, the Marshals won 8-6 on 10 hits, led by Lucas Forsythe who was 2 for 4 at the plate with three RBI’s. Tied 2-2 after four innings, the Marshals scored five runs in the sixth that began with a bases loaded hit by Forsythe that scored CJ Johnson and Drake Anderson. Jackson Beal scored on a line drive by Cole Griggs and two-run single by Cameron Ives brought in Forsythe and Griggs for a 7-2 lead.

St. Mary added four runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 7-6 with one more run scored by the Marshals in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Forsythe that scored Johnson for the 8-6 win. Weston Harper got the win in one inning of work on the mound allowing no hits and two runs and the save given to Griffin Ives. Hale Sims led St. Mary at the plate with a single, double and three RBI’s.

Saturday’s first game in Dyersburg, the Marshals beat Millington 4-1 on eight hits with Griffen Ives getting the win with seven innings on the mound, allowing two hits and one run. Anderson drove in two runs in the second inning to give the Marshals the early 2-1 lead and they scored two more runs in the sixth on a two-out bunt by Anderson and run scored on a wild pitch by Johnson.

Marshall County beat Dyersburg 8-5 in the second game on Saturday. Dyersburg led 5-4 after four innings when the Marshals put together a four-run fifth inning, scoring on a double by Skyler Brown, Anderson reached on an error that brought in Derek Doss and a ground out by Dawson Smothers scored two more runs. Harper picked up the win in four innings on the mound, allowing three hits and five runs.
