Lady Marshals host Slugfest on Saturday

Aubree Jo Kemp on the mound for the Lady Marshals in their 10-0 loss to McCracken County last Thursday. The Lady Marshals four hits in the game came from Lexee Miller, Payton Smothers, Addie Young and Kylie Meeks.

DRAFFENVILLE – Rain cancelled Friday’s games in the 2017 Marshall County Slugfest, moving 17 games to Saturday and one Sunday, played at the high school and Mike Miller Park fields. The Lady Marshals were 3-1 in their four games Saturday, picking up wins over Carlisle County, Atherton (Louisville) and Butler County with their one loss coming to Owensboro Catholic.

In their first game on Saturday, the Lady Marshals beat Carlisle County 17-4 on 16 hits and one error. Leading 10-2 after five innings, the Lady Marshals scored seven runs in the sixth inning on doubles by McKenzie Tack and Payton Smothers, single by Destiny Sauders and ground out by Kinley Edwards.

Leading hitters were Tack who went 3 for 4 with a double, triple and three RBI’s, Lexee Miller was 2 for 2 with a triple and two RBI’s and Smothers 2 for 3 with a double and three RBI’s. Shelby Wadkins got the win on the mound pitching six innings allowing seven hits and four runs.

The Lady Marshals beat Atherton (Louisville) 13-3 in their second game on Saturday in five innings behind 14 hits. Addie Young led at the plate going a perfect 4 for 4 with two home runs, a double and single while collecting seven RBI’s. Aubree Jo Kemp pitched five innings, allowing four hits and three runs in picking up the win.

In five innings, the Lady Marshals beat Butler County 14-4 on 14 hits in their third game on the day. Their big 8-run third inning which put them up 10-0 was fueled by a double from Zoie Swoope, single by Gabbi Lovett, double from Miller and single by Young along with a couple of errors on Butler County. Lovett earned the win on the mound in five innings, allowing seven hits and four runs.

The Lady Marshals suffered their only loss in the Slugfest in their final game of the day to Owensboro Catholic 9-5. Down 9-1 going into the seventh inning, the Lady Marshals scored four runs on a bases loaded two-run single by Miller, sacrifice fly by Smothers and RBI double by Young. Owensboro Catholic’s Mackenzie Short got the win on the mound pitching four innings for the Lady Aces, allowing five hits and one run.
