PADUCAH – In their last swim meet before Regionals on February 10th and 11th, the Marshall County Swim Team finished third in combined scoring on January 16th at the Paducah Tilghman Invitational. The six-team meet was won by McCracken County with Murray placing second. The Marshall County boy’s team placed 1st ahead of McCracken County and the girl’s placed 4th.
Two first place finishes were recorded by the boy’s 200 Yard Medley Relay and individually by Jackson Brown in the 100 yard backstroke. Four second place finishes came from Jacob Rushing in the 200 Freestyle, Jackson Brown in the 50 freestyle, Sofia Bayer in the 100 Backstroke and the boy’s 400 Yard Relay event.
Jackson Brown set a new school record in the 100 Yard Backstroke in 1:00.73, breaking his own record set earlier this season on November 19th of 1:01.22.
Another school record was set on December 17th at the Murray Invitational by Sofia Bayer in the 200 Individual Medley. Bayer’s time of 2:37.38 broke the previous record held by Allie Darnall of 2:38.24 set in 2006.
The Marshall County team placed 7th overall in the Murray Invitational 10 team meet. Madisonville North Hopkins took first.
Top performances at Murray came from Isaac Bayer who touched in first in the 100 Freestyle and 3rd in the 50 Freestyle, Sofia Bayer 3rd in 200 IM and Jackson Brown 3rd in the 200 IM.
The team is preparing for the Regional Swim Meet with 19 swimmers eligible, at their practice facility at the Murray State University Carr Health pool.
