Marshals win 14th, Gillespie’s 400th in victory over Lyon County

DRAFFENVILLE – Four Marshals scored in double figures Tuesday against Lyon County on their way to a 77-41 win. Led by Aaron Reed with 18 points, Dylan Walters scored 13 points, Matt French 11 and 10 for Houston Harvey. The win also marked the 400th career win for Head Coach Gus Gillespie.

Eight of the Marshals first 10 points of the game came from Reed to give them an early 10-0 lead before Lyon County’s Max Wadlington put the Lyons on the board for the first time in the game. Four points each from French and Walters, a three by Harvey and basket by Reed finished the quarter out on a 23-6 lead.

The Marshals opened the second quarter on a 10-0 run to lead 33-6, stopped on a 3-pointer by Bryar Riley. A one-handed slam by Reed, his first of two in the game, gave him his 14th point of the half and a 35-9 Marshall County lead. The Lyons finished out the half with six more points, five coming from Peyton Martin, to trail at halftime 39-15.

With their highest point total coming in the third quarter, the Marshals forced a running clock when their lead reached 35 points at 58-23. The Marshals third quarter scoring was spread around by seven different players, getting the final two baskets of the quarter from Tyler Stokes and Bryce Flatt for a 66-31 lead.

Coach Gus Gillespie cleared the bench in the fourth quarter getting all 15 players in the game, adding 10 more points on their way to a 36 point win.
