Marshall County Sheriff’s Report September 26th, 2016

On September 24th at 12:56am, Sheriff Kevin Byars conducted a traffic stop on Big Bear Hwy. He had clocked the vehicle by radar at 77 in a 55 zone. Upon approaching the vehicle, Sheriff Byars and Deputy Josh Anderson observed an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Further investigation resulted in finding approximately 1.5 grams of methamphetamine, scales, and two needles. Michelle L. Margritz age 28 of Kearney, Nebraska was arrested and charged with Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree – Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On September 25th at 6:24pm, Deputy Chris Greenfield was dispatched to a single vehicle crash with injury on Old Olive Road. Deputy Greenfield’s investigation revealed that the driver was traveling north on Old Olive Road when she went off of the side of the road, over corrected, and left the opposite side of the road. The vehicle struck a utility pole. Witnesses said that the subject then tried to put the vehicle in reverse and pull away from the pole. They observed the driver throw what was found to be a bottle of vodka from the vehicle. Deputy Greenfield made contact with the driver, Jennifer S. Smith age 43 of Gilbertsville. Greenfield reports that her speech was slurred and she smelled of alcoholic beverages. Due to injury, Deputy Greenfield cited Smith for DUI.
