DRAFFENVILLE – The 2016 Marshall County Athletic Foundation Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place Thursday, September 1st . There will be a reception starting at 5:30 PM in the Marshall County High School commons area and the awards ceremony will take place at 7:00 PM in the Kenneth Shadowen Performing Arts Center.

The annual Hall of Fame golf scramble will take place Friday, September 2nd at Kentucky Dam State Park Golf Course with lunch served at 11:00 AM and golf starting at 11:30 AM.

The annual CFSB Hall of Fame football game will be Friday, September 2nd when the Marshals take the field against Ballard Memorial at 7:00 PM.

A social event will be held on Saturday, September 3rd for the Marshall County Boys Basketball teams from 1984-1989 at the Calvert City Country Club from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Players can reunite with this year’s inductees Coach Allen Hatcher, Terry Birdsong, John Solomon and the 1989 team. Pictures will be taken of each team from the 1983-1984 team to 1988-1989.

Coach:
Allan Hatcher 1983-1989; While at Marshall County High School, Coach Hatcher had a record of 152 wins and 36 losses, for a winning percentage of 80.9% the highest ever winning percentage for a boys’ basketball coach at Marshall County. Coach Hatcher led the Marshals basketball team to four regional titles and one state semi-finalist in six seasons at Marshall County. He has won eleven regional titles and went to the state semi-finals twice in the state of Kentucky. He led a girls’ team to one semi-final. Coach Hatcher won a state championship in the state of West Virginia and compiled over 800 wins in his career.

Team:
1989 Marshall Basketball Team; this team’s record was 29-6 and they reached the state semi-finals where they were defeated by Pleasure Ridge Park. On the road to the final four they had to defeat the undefeated Clay County Tigers, which was ranked number one in the state, and in the second round they had to defeat Travis Ford’s number two ranked team, Madisonville.

James Burnett Holland– Mr. Holland was known as Mr. Sportsman. He loved fishing, hunting, golf, baseball, football, and basketball. In 1977, Mr. Holland was voted as the Marshals Number One Fan.
You could always see Mr. Holland supporting the Marshals at different sporting events throughout his life. When he passed, his family set up a scholarship fund for one male and one female athlete to receive to continue their education.

John Solomon 1983-1987; Mr. Solomon played basketball for the Marshall County from 1983 to 1987.

When John completed his basketball career at Marshall County he was number two on the Marshals career scoring list with 1504 points. He currently sits at number four. John currently holds the highest field goal percentage in school history with 69.1% for his career. John made famous his drop-step baseline move. He was a member of the All Purchase Team in 1987.

Terry Birdsong 1983-1987; Mr. Birdsong played basketball for Marshall County from 1983 to 1987.

When Terry completed his basketball career at Marshall County he was number three on the Marshals career scoring list with 1328 points. He currently sits at number eight. Terry still holds the record for most rebounds in a game with 20. He went on to play basketball at Western Kentucky University and Murray State University. He was a member of the All Purchase Team and Second Team All-State in 1987.

Jim Griffy 1966-1969; Mr. Griffy graduated from Benton High School in 1969. He was a three year starter for the Benton Indians where he scored over 1,000 points. His senior year he was selected as the Player of the Year for Region One and was selected as an Honorable Mention All-State. Once Mr. Griffy completed his senior year he went on to play basketball at Paducah Community College and then at the University of Arkansas at Monticello.

Rechelle Cadwell Turner 1987-1991; Mrs. Turner played softball and basketball at Marshall County High School from 1987 to 1991. When Rechelle completed her basketball career at Marshall County she was number two on the Marshals career scoring list with 1950 points. She currently sits at number three.

Rechelle went on to play basketball and golf at Murray State University. She was a member of the All-Purchase Team in 1990 and 1991. She was selected as the Purchase Player of the Year in 1991. During her career her teams won four regional titles.
