DRAFFENVILLE – Graves County’s Channing Foster put the Lady Eagles on the board first just under four minutes into the game, her first of four goals in their 8-4 district win over the Lady Marshals Tuesday at Colburn Stadium.

Foster, a transfer from Murray, didn’t see much playing time for Murray last season due to an injury but played in the post-season.

“She’s an impact player”, Lady Marshals Coach Michael Boone said. “Between her and Allye (Darnell), they are hard to defend. Especially with an untested back line.”

Kayla Travis scored to tie the game 1-1 less than three minutes after Foster’s goal, then seven minutes later scored again from about 40 yards out to give the Lady Marshals a 2-1 lead. The lead was short-lived as Graves County’s Cass Thomas tied the game again at 2-2.

Graves had the opportunity to go up again at 16:50 in the first half on a penalty kick by Foster that was saved by Allie Fiske, then saved again on the rebound kick which led to a corner kick for the Lady Eagles that was denied by the Lady Marshals.

Travis picked up the hat-trick, scoring again on a 30-35 yard kick to put the Lady Marshals back on top 3-2.
A goal by Darnell tied the game 3-3 with eight minutes left in the half followed a minute later by a Graves County penalty kick that would have given them the lead, but hit off the right goal post.

With four minutes left in the half, a hand ball called on the Lady Marshals that impeded the ball going into the goal, resulted in a straight red card that put them in a position the remainder of the game to play a man down.

Eleven minutes into the second half, Foster put the Lady Eagles up 4-3, then tied again three minutes later on a long goal by Camryn Crass. Foster again, just after Crass’ goal, put the Lady Eagles up again at 5-4. Graves went on to score three more goals by Darnell, Foster and Raychel Mathis on their way to the 8-4 win.

“We’re fit but losing the player in the midfield played into what they were doing in terms of possessing the ball”, Boone said. “Two freshman in the middle in the second half allowed them to control possession and they made good passes.”

Graves County had 19 shots in the game, 18 on goal and 7 corner kicks. The Lady Marshals 5 shots, all 5 on goal and 1 corner kick. Fiske had 10 saves for the Lady Marshals.

The Lady Marshals will travel to Calloway County for another district game Thursday.
