LACENTER – The Marshall County High School Boys golf team traveled to La Center, KY on Saturday, August 20th to participate in the Ballard Memorial Invitational Tournament at the Ballard County Country Club (par 72). There were 13 teams that dealt with unfavorable weather conditions throughout the tournament but never stopped for a weather delay. Players experienced rain and went during the beginning of the tournament but donned rain gear and continued to play.
The Marshals team score of 307 (lowest 4 individual scores) placed them 2nd in the 13 team tournament. Mayfield won the team title with a score of 289 and McCracken finished in third place with a score of 308.
Individual medalist honors was decided in a playoff between McCracken’s Chase Korte and Mayfield’s Collin Dodson, both shooting 4-under 68’s. Both players went to hole #18 and played the hole to the same score, then returned to play hole #18 again where Dodson pared the hole and Korte birdied the hole for the win. Marshall County’s Quinn Eaton placed third with a 2-under 70.
Marshall County individual scoring came from Eaton with 70, Jay Nimmo 73, Tyler Powell 79, Grant Hackney 85 and Garrett Howell 87.
“I am really proud of our team today especially playing this well in the wind and rain during the first half of the tournament”, Coach Keith Bell said. “Our team is playing consistently well right now and I hope this continues throughout the season and into the regional tournament. Mayfield and McCracken also continue to play well so we can’t afford to lose focus. Our players are working hard and know the ultimate goal is to make it back to the state tournament.”
