Marshall girls, Trigg boys win Thursday’s match at Calvert City

CALVERT CITY – The Marshall County boy’s hosted Trigg County and Murray at Calvert City Country Club Thursday with the victory going to Trigg County. Trigg County as a team shot 170 followed by Murray with 176 and Marshall County at 209. The boy’s medalist was Preston English of Murray who shot 37.

Drew Putteet shot the low score for the Marshals with 44. Adding to the team score, Drake Butler shot 52, Nathan Clark 56 and Nick Dowdy 57. Also playing in the match, Ben Staples shot 68.

On the girl’s side, Marshall County won their match with a team score of 178 followed by Murray shooting 187. Led by Savannah Howell with 40, Megan Hertter shot 45, Kennadi Spraggs 46 and Sydney Phillips 47 for the team score and Laney Hoskins shot 60.

The girl’s medalist was Sarah McDowell of Murray who shot 39.

Wednesday, in the Kentucky Cup at Lexington’s UK Wildcat Course, the Marshall boys finished 8th out of 23 teams among some very tough competition. Quinn Eaton shot the low round with 72, Tyler Powell posted a 76, Jay Nimmo 77 and Grant Hackney shot 84 for a team score of 309. Garrett Howell also playing for the Marshals shot 91. Trinity took the win with an 11-over 294.

The boy’s team will tee it up on Saturday at the Shady Hollow Golf Course in Cub Run, Ky., at the Warren East Raider Invitational. Monday, the girl’s will head to Bowling Green Country Club to compete in the Greenwood High School Invitational.
