Doing God’s Will

jt parrishGeorge W. Truett once said “To know the will of God is the greatest knowledge. To find the will of God is the greatest discovery. And to DO the will of God is the greatest accomplishment.” If that is true and I have no doubt it is then it is crystal clear that wisdom would lead us to look to Jesus and His word. For he always did the will of God.

It has been almost 60 years since I sat in the Bible class in which every student missed a questions that we were all sure that we knew. The professor asked us if Jesus came into the world to die for our sins on the cross? We all knew the answer was “yes.” What a shock to learn that Jesus came into this world to do the will of the Father! When Jesus faced the prospect of death on the cross He prayed to the Father, “Let this cup pass from me.” Then He prayed, “Nevertheless not my will, but Thy will be done!” The Father’s will was for Jesus to suffer the death on the cross for our sins, and He was obedient even unto death.

Jesus prayed often. He went out a great while before day to pray. He continued all night in prayer. He prayed before every decision. He prayed at His baptism and on the cross. He communed with His Father because He only said and did the will His Father communicated to Him. Jesus has told us to pray. “Thy will be done on earth as it is done in heaven.” He also taught us if we were willing to do God’s will we would know it.

From the scriptures we learn that if we will pray in God’s will He will hear us and we will have the petitions we asked Him. 1 John 5:14-15 you will find God’s will in His word. When you search the scriptures with the intent to obey them, you will find God’s perfect will.

The result will be a life with a clear conscience, and you will get your prayers answered. Life in the will of God is a life filled with joy!
