Update on Lakes Area heat conditions this weekend

Thursday was the hottest day for the date in seventy years, as southern Illinois and western Kentucky suffered under a heat advisory yesterday.

Air temperatures reached 100 degrees at Barkley Field, setting a new record for the date.

The triple-digit temperature broke the previous mark of 98 set in 1946.

The heat combined with higher humidity produced heat index values between 105 and 110.

Forecasters are calling for a bit of a break from the hot weather for Friday into the weekend, with highs around 88.

The normal high for this time of year is 86.

However, they say temperatures could sneak back above 90 degrees by Monday.
