Six times over the past several years, legendary basketball players and other standout athletes have gathered to remember old times.

On Saturday, another get-together is scheduled at Lowry Farms in Pilot Oak in southern Graves County. The public is invited to share in the catered meal and help remember Charles “Doodle” Floyd, one of the most colorful figures in Jackson Purchase sports.

Floyd, who played with a dazzling style for the 1952 state champion Cuba High School Cubs, died last year. He and Barney Thweatt, another legendary player who was a member of the undefeated state champion Brewers Redmen team in 1948, to establish the series of meetings.

Another regular at the gatherings is Farmington High School graduate Adrian “Odie” Smith, who achieved fame at the University of Kentucky, in the Olympic Games and in the NBA.

Thweatt said he hopes fans who remember Floyd, Smith and other great players will be on hand for the event.

This year’s event will open at 4:00 p.m. with the meal scheduled to be served at 5:00.
