Interstate 24 Lane Restriction in Marshall County Moved to Wednesday, June 1

PADUCAH, Ky. (May 25, 2016) - Due to weather conditions, a contractor for The
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) was unable to install a temporary barrier
wall along the eastbound lanes of Interstate 24 in Marshall County as planned on
Tuesday.
To avoid the potential for traffic delays during the Memorial Day holiday driving
period, the contractor has moved the nighttime barrier wall installation to
Wednesday, June 1.
The contractor plans to restrict I-24 eastbound traffic to one lane starting at
approximately 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 1st, where traffic from Purchase Parkway Exit
52-A northbound merges with I-24 eastbound traffic at Exit 25 in Calvert City. The
contractor will be erecting a temporary concrete barrier along the eastbound
shoulder of I-24 from mile point 25.3 to mile point 25.6 during the overnight hours
of June 1st. The work should be completed by 6 a.m., CDT, on Thursday, June 2nd.
Motorists should use appropriate caution as equipment, flaggers, and construction
personnel will be along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow during the
installation process. Some minor delays are possible during the movement and
placement of equipment to facilitate the overnight work.
The temporary barrier wall along the eastbound shoulder of I-24 is to prepare for
maintenance of traffic during construction of a new overpass as part of ongoing I-69
corridor upgrades at the I-24 Exit 25 Interchange.
As a reminder, this work zone includes a strictly enforced 55 mile per hour speed
limit with an enhanced enforcement presence and double fines for citations.
Jim Smith Contracting of Grand Rivers is the prime contractor on the $37.8 million
interchange reconstruction project. The new I-24/I-69 Calvert City interchange has
a target completion date of July 1, 2018.
All work is subject to change depending on weather, emergencies and other factors
beyond the control of the contractor. Dial 511, log on to 511.ky.gov or download the
