ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Marshall County’s baseball team for the 3rd straight year, played a game at Busch Stadium on Saturday following the Cardinals 6-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Marshals played Alton, IL, winning 10-1 in 9 innings.
Both teams rotated players in and out throughout the game to give everyone a chance to play on the big league field.
The Marshals went up 2-0 in the 3rd inning that began on a successful bunt by Jackson Beal followed by Lucas Forsythe out running the throw to reach 1st base that put 2 on with 2 outs. That brought up Cody Clark who hit a 2-run triple to put the Marshals on the board.
In the 5th inning, Clark nearly became just the second high school player to ever hit a home run in Busch Stadium, when his ball hit the left field fence and dropped in for a 3-run double. Derek Doss followed that up with an RBI single that put the Marshals up 6-0.
Alton got on the board in the 5th on an RBI triple by Ballard to trail the Marshals 6-1 then the Marshals scored went on to score 4 more runs to finish out the game with a 10-1 win.
“We played awesome with no errors in a 9 inning game”, Marshals Head Coach Mike Johnson said following the game. “It was a great ballgame for everybody.”
The Marshals end the regular season on top of the 4th District with a record of 18-14 and will play at 7:00 at Murray State’s Reagan Field Tuesday for the 4th District Tournament title against the winner of tonight’s Calloway-Murray game.
