Marshall County boys are Region 1 Class 3A Track and Field Champions

HENDERSON – With just one event to go, the 4 x 400 relay, Marshall County’s boy’s track team trailed Daviess County by just one point, 96-95, in Saturday’s Region 1 AAA Track Championships at Henderson County. On the final leg of the relay, following Jackson Brown, Aaron Reed and Jackson Reed, Austin Shackleford crossed in second behind Hopkinsville, but more importantly, 1.61 in front of Daviess County to give them the Region 1 AAA title for the second straight year by three points.

The boys and girls teams qualified in 17 events for the KHSAA State Track and Field Championship in Lexington on Saturday.

– Drey Reed, high jump
– Audrey Grizzard, pole vault
– Sydney Temple, pole vault
– Garrett Womack, pole vault

Three Marshall County athletes took 1st place at Saturday’s Regionals including Jackson Brown in both the 110 and 300 meter high hurdles, Collin Gunn in the 1600 meters and Sydney Nelson in the shot put. Seven second place performances were turned in by Drey Reed in the high jump, Garrett Womack in pole vault, Kirsten Walker in shot put, Keagin Brooks in the discus, Abigail Oakley in discus and the boy’s 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relay teams.

The girl’s team placed 5th with 58 points, just two points behind 4th place Daviess County with 60 and three points behind Henderson County in 3rd with 61. Owensboro took the title with 125 points over Hopkinsville with 120.

The Marshall boy’s scored 103 points to take the title over Daviess County with 100 followed by Henderson County in 3rd with 83 points.
