Marshall County students earn All Around Champions at Western Region Finals

MURRAY – The 2016 High School and Junior High Rodeo Association Western Region finals were held at Murray on May 13-14. Four big winners came from Benton.

Kolton Powell, son of Ruble and Daysha Powell in the Junior High division, won All Around Cowboy, Rookie of the year, Champion Team roping- Heeler, Goat Tying, Chute Dogging, Breakaway roping, Ribbon Roping, and 22 Riffle.

Rylen Sutherland, son of Leon Kay and Dayna Sutherland and Brooks and Necie Sutherland won All Around Cowboy, Rookie of the year, Champion Team Roping- Heeler & Boys Cutting and Reserve Champion in Calf Roping and Steer Wrestling in the High School division.

Josey Powell, son of Ruble and Daysha Powell won All Around Champion , Rookie of the Year, Girls Cutting, Goat Tying, Breakaway Roping, and Team roping- Header in the High School division. She was also Reserve champion in 22 Riffle, & reining cow horse.

Marlee Henson, daughter of Van and Theresa Henson won Champion Barrel Racing in the High School division.

Only four saddles are given out to the All Around Champions and three of the four came back to BENTON KY! The three winning saddles – Kolton, Rylen and Josey are also cousins.

Marlee , Josey and Rylen attend Marshall County High School and Kolton attends Benton Middle School.
