CFSB Announces Annual Scholarship Winners

(Benton, KY)-CFSB is proud to announce the recipients of annual scholarships to students at Christian Fellowship School and Marshall County High School.

The annual CFS Eagle Scholar is a scholarship awarded from CFSB to a student at Christian Fellowship School meeting certain criteria including, but not limited to, grade-point average, college entrance exam scores, class rank and community/church activities.

The 2015-2016 CFS Eagle Scholar is Mollie Gillespie, daughter of Wade and Kristie Gillespie.  Mollie has been active with the Bible Club, Beta Club, German Club, Consumers Math Club, Spirit Club and with the CFS Student Council, including Junior Class Vice President.  She has been an All AB Honor Roll member at CFS.  She has also volunteered with H.O.P.E Clinic, Marcella’s Kitchen and Marshall County Needline.  She has been active with the Central church of Christ helping with their community Thanksgiving meal outreach.  Her plans are to attend Harding University and major in Graphic Design.

The Marshall County High School Scholarship Scoreboard is a scholarship awarded to recipients meeting certain criteria including, but not limited to, grade-point average, college entrance exam scores, class rank and extra-curricular activities.  The dollar amount of this scholarship involves the culmination of monies being added up for every Marshall County Football First Down ($4), Marshall County Soccer Goals ($5), Marshall County Basketball Three Point Shots ($3) and Kasasa K’s (Strikeouts by MCHS Pitchers) in Baseball and Softball ($3).  The total is then divided into four scholarship categories-Academic Female, Athletic Female, Academic Male and Athletic Male.

The 2015-2016 MCHS Scoreboard Scholarship recipients are:

Girls Academic: Sydney Smothers, daughter of Greg and Michelle Smothers.  Sydney has been involved with the Marshal Militia as an officer as well as a member of FCCLA, FOCUS, HOSA and Star Bank-VP of Customer Service.  She was named to the Commonwealth Honors Academy and is enrolled in Murray State University’s Thoroughbred Academy.  Sydney has been active with the Benton First United Methodist Church, volunteering with Bible School, a member of the Youth Council and singing in the choir.  Her plans are to continue her education at Murray State University majoring in Business Administration.

Girls Athletic: Te’a Fehrenbacher, daughter of Renia Rogers. Te’a has been a member of the Marshall County Lady Marshals Soccer, Tennis and Basketball teams. Te’a was named Captain of the Lady Marshals Soccer and Basketball teams in 2015-16. She has been a member of the Honor Roll, accepted into the Governor’s Scholar Program and was named a Paducah Sun Teen of the Week. She is a member of the Zion’s Cause Baptist Church Youth Group and has assisted with Awana and Vacation Bible School.  Te’a plans to attend Murray State University and major in Biology.

Boys Academic: Nathan Mason, son of Randy and Lisa Mason.  Nathan has been active with Young Americans For Freedom, Ultimate Frisbee Club and the Marshals Excel Tutoring Program. He is the Song Leader and member of the Bible Bowl team with the Union Hill church of Christ Youth Group. He was also named as a National AP Scholar with Honor and Distinction.  His plans are to attend the University of Kentucky College of Engineering and major in Chemical Engineering.

Boys Athletic: Collin Gunn, son of Chris and Melissa Gunn. Collin has been a Captain of the Marshals Football and Track teams.  He has been involved with FCA as the Co-President and Power Camp Huddle Leader, Marshall Militia General and FBLA.  He also has been an active member of the Benton church of Christ Youth Group as a Vacation Bible School volunteer and a Bible Bowl participant.  He plans to attend Lipscomb University and major in Business/Finance Management.

CFSB also congratulates the winner of the annual Star Bank Scholarship. This student must have participated in the Financial Services Class at MCHS, taught by Rebecca Phelps and sponsored by CFSB. Star Bank, in its 25th year of operation, is the student-run bank at Marshall County High School. In order to receive this scholarship, the student must show terrific leadership skills in this hands-on class.  This year’s Star Bank Scholarship goes to Brock Hayes, son of Michael Hayes and Anna Chapman and Danny Chapman.  He was the Vice President of Information Technology for Star Bank.  This year, Hayesplaced first in the Future Business Leaders of America Regional Competition (FBLA) at Murray State University (MSU).  Brock plans to go to MSU and major in Computer Science.
