MARSHALL COUNTY – Marshall County High School Class of 2016 participated in the first-ever “Senior Service Day”, a day to go out into the community and ‘give back’. Monday began with the members of the senior class gathering at their elementary schools for an inspirational and moving walk through ‘clap out’ in caps and gowns.

The seniors ‘high-fived’ the elementary students as they walked the halls, hugging teachers, reminiscing and posing for photos. Giving the young students a chance to see that hard work pays off.

From there the senior class headed out across the community to give of their time to the elementary schools, middle schools, Exceptional Center, CFSB, Kentucky Dam State Park, Marcella’s Kitchen, Calvert City Hall and Parks, Marshall County Public Libraries, Needline, Humane Society, Kenlake State Park and held a car wash at the high school.

Students helped with field days, raised money for charities with a lunch at CFSB, picked up trash at the State Parks, helped serve lunch at Marcella’s Kitchen, stocked food at Needline, assisted the staff at the Exceptional Center and cleaned at the Humane Society, to name just a few.

The administration at the high school said their vision is for this to become an annual event with the following senior classes, turning it into a tradition of giving back to the community the students have grown up with in.
