Marshall County Sheriff’s Report for May 16th, 2016

On Saturday May 14th Deputy Luke Rudd was dispatched to a suspicious vehicle at the end of Salem Chapel Road S. Upon arrival Deputy Rudd made contact with a male subject in the driver’s seat and the vehicle in reverse. The subject willingly gave up a pill bottle containing two baggies of methamphetamine and a bag of marijuana. The subject also admitted to smoking methamphetamine prior on this date. Consent was given to search the vehicle and Deputy Rudd located a metal spoon with white residue and an empty syringe. Matthew G. Hafner 31, of Gilbertsville, was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence, Possession Controlled Substance 1st Degree (Methamphetamine), Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

 

On Sunday May 15th Deputy William Strader observed a vehicle on US 68 E crossing the center line on many different occasions. Deputy Strader conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle while Deputy Josh Anderson came to assist. The subject was very fidgety inside her vehicle. The subject was asked to do the field sobriety test was could not follow simple instructions. Tara Scott 37, of Benton, was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence and Careless Driving.

 

A busy week saw 392 calls for service at the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responded to:
18 traffic crashes, 7 with injury.
42 attempts on service of criminal or civil process
13 traffic stops
71 extra patrols
10 burglary / theft
10 complaints
16 fights / disturbances
33 have officer call
11 follow up investigations
11 motorist assists

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office Court Security Division reports the following activity this week:
15 sessions of court attended
36 inmates moved to and from court
2686 people checked into building
11 adult out of county transports
1 mental health out of county transport
59 vehicle inspections

 

Sheriff Kevin Byars would like to congratulate Deputy Jason Lane on his promotion to Sergeant. Due to the recent retirement of Sergeant Samantha Mighell, a position was vacant as the midnight shift supervisor. The Sheriff’s Office held a promotional process including a nationally accepted standard written exam and a standardized interview that included scenarios and policy questions before a panel made up of MCSO command staff and guest command staff from Paducah Police, Hopkinsville Police, and Kentucky ABC. Sergeant Lane will assume his responsibilities on June first. Lane began his career with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office in 2006. Previously he served as a Paramedic with EMS and as a medic with Marshall County’s Special Response Team.
