CFS Lady Eagles recording best season in program history

DRAFFENVILLE – Christian Fellowship’s Lady Eagles are 12-10 heading into their final few games of the 2016 season, already one win ahead of the 11 wins last season. They picked up two 5-inning wins last week, 16-6 over St. Mary and 10-0 over Calvary Christian and dropped a game Thursday 8-0 to Livingston Central.

In their win over St. Mary, CFS trailed 1-0 then put together a 5-run bottom of the 1st on an RBI single by Maddie Hatton, 2-run double by Rachel Howard, RBI triple by Abbie Fletcher and Fletcher scored on an error.

St. Mary closed the gap 9-6 with 2 runs in the 3rd and 3 runs in the 5th, but the CFS bats weren’t done, adding 7 runs in the bottom of the 5th that began with 2 straight triples by Abigail Cima and Maddie Ortt and ended on a 1-run single by Cima for the 16-6 win.

Ortt struck out 3 in five innings on the mound, allowed 3 hits and 6 runs.

The Lady Eagles followed the St. Mary win up with a 10-0 win at Calvary Christian in 5 innings on 10 hits. CFS led 3-0 after 3 innings then exploded for 6 runs in the 4th on a 2-run single by Sanders, Sanders then scored on an error, Shelley scored on a sacrifice hit by Cima, Edie Little scored on a single by Ortt and Fletcher on a single by Hatton.

An RBI single by Little brought in the Lady Eagles 10th run in the 5th. Ortt allowed just 2 hits and struck out 6 in the win.

Livingston Central handed CFS a loss on Thursday at Mike Miller Park on 13 hits. CFS had 5 hits in the game, 2 by Cima which included a triple, a double by Howard and singles by Shelley and Sanders.

Livingston struck early, scoring 2 runs in their first at bat on a 2-run home run by Emily Dalton. CFS put runners on base but left 6 stranded in the loss.

Allison Doyle took the win for the Lady Cardinals pitching 7 innings, allowing 5 hits, no runs and striking out 5.
