LBL heritage sites trying to attract geocaching programs

An official geocache challenge aims to draw visitors to Land Between The Lakes heritage sites.

Heritage Program Manager Jamie Bennett developed the inaugural program to educate geocachers about the national recreation area’s past.

Geocaching involves using Global Positioning System coordinates to find hidden stashes. Hobbyists enjoy geocaching worldwide and often coordinate through websites and applications.

Staff placed geocache boxes containing sign-in sheets, logbooks, and tags across Land Between The Lakes.

Once enthusiasts collect one tag from each of five separate locations, they may redeem a limited gold prize coin.

Only the first 100 participants may obtain a challenge coin. Interested individuals must register at geocaching.com and search for caches placed by “LBL heritage.”

Once participants redeem all tree tags and coins, this year’s geocache challenge ends.
