Marshals split games this week at Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – The Marshals completed their Spring Break play yesterday at the Cal Ripken Experience youth baseball complex in Myrtle Beach, SC, coming away with a 2-2 record for the week.  They opened with a 10-2 win over Lincoln County, KY, lost 5-3 to Lawrence County, KY, picked up their second win 5-2 over Louisville Wagner then dropped their final game 12-2 to Louisville Male.

In their opener on Monday against Lincoln County, the Marshals led 6-0 after 2 innings, scoring on a bases loaded walk by Cody Clark, RBI single from Austin Poe, Lance Dyke and Derek Doss scored runs in the 1st inning, followed by two more runs in the 2nd on an RBI single by Dyke and run from Justice Beal on an error.
Lincoln County put 2 runs on the board in the 4th and the Marshals added 3 more in the 5th on an RBI single by Cole Griggs, run by Cameron Ives on a wild pitch and another wild pitch score by Clay Austin for a 9-2 lead. They scored their final run on a ground out by Brandon Blossom which brought in Doss.
J.C. Going picked up the win with 6 innings of work, allowing 7 hits and 2 runs.

Lawrence County lead 3-0 early in Tuesday’s game that the Marshals cut to 3-2 in the top of the 4th on an RBI single by Ives and run scored by Justice Beal. They tied the game 3-3 in their next at-bat on a Lawrence County error but the Bulldogs added 2 more runs in the 5th that held up for the 5-3 win.
Drake Banager picked up the win for the Bulldogs pitching a compete game, striking out 5 and walking 2.

In their second game on Tuesday, the Marshals beat Louisville Wagner 5-2 on 8 hits. Leading 1-0 in the top of the 3rd, Poe drove in 3 runs and put the Marshals up 4-0. They scored their final run in the 6th inning on a single by Forsythe.
Trace Colson earned the win going 6 innings, allowing 6 hits, 1 run and striking out 5.

In their final game on Thursday, Louisville Male took care of the Marshals 12-2 in 5 innings on 13 hits. The Marshals led 2-0 early, scoring on a double by Clark and triple by Austin but two big 5-run innings by Male in the 2nd and 4th innings put the game away. Some of Male’s hitting power came on a solo home run by Slate Robinson in the 3rd and 3-run homer by Dylan Justice in the 4th.

The majority of teams in Myrtle Beach this week were from Kentucky, including Tilghman and Murray. Tilghman won one game over Hazard and lost three to Muhlenberg County, Lawrence County and Male.
Murray split their games 2-2 picking up wins over Lawrence County and Lincoln County and losing to Boyd County and Raceland.
