Wages Vs. Gift

johntparishPresident Calvin Coolidge was a man of few words. One Sunday he attended church, and his wife who didn’t get to attend, asked about the subject matter of the preacher. “Sin,” answered Coolidge. His wife asked, “What did he say about it?” The president answered, “Oh, he was against it!”

That happened about 85 years ago. Today, one could possibly attend church a long time without hearing anything about sin, and if he did the sermon might be condoning it. Recently, a preacher who is building a church in another state asked me, “Why would you ever preach on sin?” I answered him, “Because we are all sinners. We need to know sin is real, universal, tragic, never acceptable to God, and cost God the horrible suffering and death of His only begotten Son!”

“The wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life though our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 6:23) Sin has a payday. Sins wages is death! And the wages of sin have never been reduced!

What an awful day of reckoning is coming to those who ignore this truth, and teach others to do likewise. “Sin will take you further than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you more than you want to pay!”

Sin has a remedy. The gift of God is eternal life through our Lord Jesus Christ.

  • Sin earns a wage – death
  • Jesus gives a gift – eternal life

Jesus paid our sin debt so we could be given His righteousness.

“He who knew no sin was made sin for us that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.” (2 Cor. 5:21)

That is the best trade you will ever make!
