DRAFFENVILLE – Murray High clinched the number one seed in the 4th District Tournament Tuesday with their 64-42 win over the Lady Marshals. The #4 ranked Lady Tigers have just one loss this season, dating back to December 20th when they lost by two points to Mason County.

Murray’s scoring power comes from four players and unfortunately for Region 1 teams, they are all underclassmen. Sophomores Macey Turley and Alexis Burpo each scored 17 points, junior Maddie Waldrop had 16 and sophomore Alexandria Mayes added 11 in the Lady Tigers win.

The Lady Marshals held the lead twice in the first quarter after a three by Miyah Davis for a 3-2 lead and another three from Davis that put them up again 6-5. From that point all it was all Murray, taking a 20-9 lead on a Burpo basket at the end of the first quarter.

Murray’s 6-2 run, all by Waldrop, put them up 26-11 to start the second quarter. Hannah Langhi scored the Lady Marshals first seven points of the second quarter but the combination of scoring by Waldrop, Mayes, Burpo and Turley led the Lady Tigers to a 43-23 halftime lead.

Waldrop picked up her 3rd and 4th fouls early in the third quarter when the Lady Tigers led by 21 and from that point on, the Lady Marshals outscored them 11-6, getting a three from Nikki Fehrenbacher to end the quarter trailing 53-37.

Turley opened the fourth quarter for Murray with a three as the Lady Tigers went on to out-score the Lady Marshals 11-5 in the final frame and pick up win number 26 by 22 points.

For the Lady Marshals, Langhi had 12 points and 8 rebounds and 11 points were scored by Fehrenbacher. Murray’s great stat of the night was their 100 percent shooting from the free throw line hitting 13 of 13 and scored 15 points off of 15 Lady Marshal turnovers.

The Lady Marshals drop to 20-6 and will play their final regular season district game on Friday at Calloway County in a double-header with the Marshals.
