Focused Lady Marshal’s team get win number 15 over Graves

DRAFFENVILLE – Hannah Langhi made the first four points for the Lady Marshals on her way to a 26-point game in their 53-44 win over Graves County at home Friday night.

Coach Joseph Simmons said his team followed the game plan and played to their strengths in “a quality win over a team that could compete for a regional championship in March.”

The Lady Marshals never trailed in the game, leading 6-1 early in the first quarter before a 3-pointer from Graves County’s Lyndi Qualls cut the lead to two points. A three from Nikki Fehrenbacher was answered with a three by Danielle Waggoner to cut it to two once again.

Langhi scored and was fouled to extend the Lady Marshal lead to 12-7 as the Lady Marshals went on to lead 17-9 at the end of the quarter.

Graves County out-scored the Lady Marshals 12-7 in the second quarter to pull to within three as the Lady Marshals worked the ball around to take the final shot of the half that was no good, holding onto a 24-21 lead at halftime.

The third quarter belonged to the Lady Marshals with nine of their 14 points coming from Langhi, a three added by Fehrenbacher and two by Lexee Miller to stretch the lead out to 10 at 38-28.

Early in the fourth quarter, the Lady Eagles cut the lead to five points, then four at 40-36 with five minutes left to play. With 3:40 left on the clock, Fehrenbacher scored followed by two straight threes from Briley English that gave the Lady Marshals a commanding 12-point lead, holding on to pick up their 15th win of the season by nine points over Graves County.

“I thought our girls played with more focus tonight than they have all season”, Simmons said following the win.

Along with Langhi’s 26 points in the game, she finished with 15 rebounds. The Lady Marshals scored half of the their points in the paint and out-rebounded the Lady Eagles 31-25.
