Marshall County student wins 10U Home Run Derby in Orlando

Ten year old Chase Shelton, a 4th grader at Sharpe Elementary, won the home run derby for 10U at the Disney New Year’s Baseball Classic held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida on December 29, 2015.

Sixteen 10 year old boys from across the US competed in the home run derby competition.  Chase was in a 3-way tie after the first round with two home runs each.  Chase hit three home runs in the tie breaker round to win the competition.  His second home run of the tie breaker round was a monster shot.

Chase’s Game Day USA All Star team ended up placing 3rd last week at Disney.  They went undefeated until the semi-championship game.  

Chase was selected this past summer to play in one of the Game Day USA All-Star Events which are by invitation only.  He participated in the All-Star event held in August in St. Louis, Missouri in which he did really well and won the home run derby for his age group.

Chase was selected to carry the flag during the opening ceremonies at St. Louis.  Game Day USA had over 2,500 players participate at nine different locations across the US representing 13 different states to compete in the All-Star events.

Out of the over 2,500 participants in the All-Star events, Chase was selected by Game Day USA to play for one of its two 10U teams made up of 12 players from across the US.  Chase was on the Game Day USA 10U Blue Team at the Disney New Year’s Baseball Classic which was held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports from December 29th – January 2nd.
