Marshall County Sheriff’s Report – January 4, 2016

sheriffOn Wednesday December 30th Deputy Nathan Maxlow was dispatched to the Dollar Store in Aurora in reference to a shoplifting complaint. Upon arrival Deputy Maxlow spoke to the staff who advised that a female subject was found with stolen merchandise in her purse. The video surveillance was reviewed in which showed the subject putting the merchandise in her purse. Clarissa A. Johnson 49, of Benton, was arrested and charged with Theft By Unlawful Taking-Shoplifting U/$500.

On Wednesday December 30th Deputy Nathan Maxlow was dispatched to Village Road in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival Deputy Maxlow spoke to the manager who advised a subject was yelling and cursing causing a disturbance to the other residents. Upon contact with the male subject there was a strong odor of alcohol present. The male subject began cursing at an elderly subject as Deputy Maxlow was conducting an interview with the manager. David M. Cox 26, of Benton, was then placed under arrest. While in route to the jail, Cox made verbal threats to Deputy Maxlow and his family. Cox was charged with Alcohol Intoxication in a Public Place and Terroristic Threatening 3rd Degree.

On Saturday January 2nd Deputy William Strader attempted to stop a subject on Dogtown Road who was traveling on an ATV. The subject rode around the rear of Deputy Straders cruiser while he had his emergency equipment activated to stop the subject. As the subject then passed the cruiser he struck the rear of the car causing damage to the back bumper and trunk. The subject still did not stop and continued to flee. The subject then ran his ATV into a ditch on the right side of the roadway losing control and wrecking the ATV. The subject did have an odor of alcohol present and also had alcohol present with him on the ATV. Joshua M. Downing 24, of Benton, was cited due to needing medical attention for Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree, Criminal Mischief 1st Degree and Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence 1st Degree.
