API and Oak Hill win opening night televised games in Hoopfest 2015

BENTON – Marshall County Hoopfest 2015 kicked off Thursday night with two showcase games televised on ESPNU and ESPN. In the first game the API (Advanced Prep International) Bulldogs (formerly Prime Prep) of Texas beat Sunrise Christian Academy (Kansas) 63-47 behind leading scorer and #2 junior in the nation, Trevon Daval who had 15 points.

Right behind Daval in scoring was #6 ranked Billy Preston with 14 points. Daval and Preston, both juniors, are undecided on where they will attend college.

Kameron McGusty led Sunrise Academy with 18 points. McGusty is ranked 43rd in the Class of 2016 and has committed to Oklahoma. Another ranked player for Sunrise Academy is Isiah Jasey who is 82nd in the Class of 2017.

Game two featured the teams from Oak Hill Academy, WV and Chaminade College Prep, MO,  in another nationally televised game on ESPN.

Oak Hill was 8-1 coming into their Hoopfest game against Chaminade College Prep and after jumping out to a 37-24 lead at halftime, Chaminade out-scored the Warriors 38-32 in the second half but Oak Hill held on to win 69-62.

The Warriors were led in scoring by Braxton Key, who has committed to play at Alabama, with 18 points. Lindell Wigginton dropped in 17 points and 12 from Mississippi State commit Mario Kegler.

Chaminade was led by Jayson Tatum with 25 points and 12 rebounds, a 6’9″ senior who is headed to Duke next year.

Oak Hill plays again in the Hoopfest on Saturday at 6:30 against Athletes Institute of Canada.
