Lady Marshals, Marshals win season openers over Ballard Memorial

BARLOW – The Lady Marshals and Marshals both opened their 2015-2016 seasons with wins over Ballard Memorial on Tuesday.

The Lady Marshals beat Ballard 65-25 behind leading scorer Hannah Langhi who recorded a double-double in the first game of the season with 18 points and 15 rebounds.

Leading 42-13 at halftime, Head Coach Joseph Simmons was able to clear his bench getting all team members on the floor in the game, going on to out-score the Lady Bombers 23-12 in the second half.

Also in double figures for the Lady Marshals was Briley English with 11 points and Miyah Davis with 10 points.

Their next opponent is Massac County in Thursday’s opening night of the Marshall County Hoopfest with a tip time scheduled for 8:30.

The Marshals road to their first win was a bit rougher against a tough Bomber team. Ballard led 20-18 after the first quarter while the Marshals took a 1-point 35-34 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Marshals went up by four at the end of the third quarter then stretched it out in the fourth quarter for the 9-point win.
D.J. Pigg led the Marshals with 18 points, four baskets from 3-point range followed by Dylan Walters with 14 points, Dawson Jolley had 11 and Aaron Reed recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Up next for the Marshals is a game on Friday in the Hoopfest against Dyersburg, TN, at 4:00.
