Christian Fellowship’s McCombs and Marshall’s Ray compete at State Cross Country meet

LEXINGTON – Marshall County’s Matt Ray and Christian Fellowship’s Anya McCombs were both in Lexington on Saturday for the KHSAA State Cross Country Championships after qualifying for the honor at the 1st Region Championships on October 31st.

McCombs finished the 5K Class 1A race in 22:05.82.

McCombs finished the girls Class 1A race in 56th place in a time of 22:05.82 with the best 1st Region finish. Williamsburg’s Selena Mattingly won the individual 1A state title in 18:52.87. The team from St. Henry District took first, Beechwood second and Bishop Brossant third.

In the boys Class 1A race, Aaron Wier of Lexington Christian took first in 15:56.19. The team from Lexington Christian captured the team state title followed by Holy Cross in second and St. Henry District third.

Ray finished 143rd in the boys Class 3A state race in 17:49.26. Graves County’s Maracos Macias had the best finish for a 1st Region runner placing 17th in 16:17.65 and the race was won by South Oldham senior Cole Dowdy in 15:20.38, the fastest overall boys time of the day in the three classes.

St. Xavier placed four runners in the top 10 on their way to the Class 3A team title, second went to South Oldham and third to Meade County. Daviess County took fourth overall and Madisonville North-Hopkins finished 10th.

DuPont Manual’s Alena Sapienza-Wright won the girls Class 3A race in 18:09.45. Daviess County took first, Male second and Sacred Heart Academy third.

In Class 2A competition, Lexington Catholic’s Michaela Reinhart ran the fastest overall girls time of the day stopping the clock at 18:03.66 to win the state title. The team from Highlands placed first, North Oldham second and Lexington Catholic third.

Highland’s Ethan Shuley won the boys Class 2A race in 15:33.47 to help lead his team to a second place finish behind North Oldham in first and Shelby County taking third.
