CLINTON – Playing for the first time this season, Marshall County and Paducah Tilghman met on the court in the second semi-final game of the 1st Region Tournament Wednesday. The Lady Marshals came away with a 3-0 win to advance to the championship game against McCracken County but not without a fight by the Lady Blue Tornados.

Following a Lady Marshal 4-2 lead, Tilghman scored the next five unanswered points to take a 7-4 lead, hanging onto that lead until Marshall County tied the game at 9-9. Tilghman went back up 15-10 on four straight serves by Katelyn Shumaker.

The Lady Marshals cut Tilghman’s lead then tied the game at 16 all behind a kill by Hannah Langhi and serves from Lanna Bibb. Four straight serves for points by Paige Henson led the Lady Marshals to a 25-21 game one win.

The second game began with five ties before a kill by Sydney Nelson put Marshall County up by one at 8-7, a lead they maintained the rest of the game with the final two points coming on a block by Nelson and kill by Ragan Harris for a 25-17 win.

Tilghman again kept the game close in the third before the Lady Marshals started to pull away at 20-13, going on to win 25-17.

McCracken County has not lost a single game to a Region One opponent in three years, but the Lady Marshals have scored the most single-game points against the two-time defending champion Lady Mustangs earlier this season in a 25-21 game.

Tonight’s game at Hickman County High School starts at 6:00.
