DRAFFENVILLE – Marshall County and Calloway County met in the second semi-final game in the 4th District volleyball tournament Monday at CFS. Looking to defend their 4th District title, the Lady Marshals had to first get by Calloway County and the Lady Lakers didn’t make it easy.
Leading game one 11-7, Calloway’s Lily Lowe off the bench gave the Lady Laker a lift at the net to close the gap to 12-10 but the Lady Marshals would go on to out-score them 13-5 for a 25-15 win.
Game two would go to Calloway County 25-23 after nine ties and several lead changes to tie the match at 1-1.
Tied 5-5 in game three, a kill by Hannah Langhi put the Lady Marshals up by one and the two teams would battle through three ties before Marshall County took a two-point lead at 10-8 and began to stretch it out to 16-8, going on to win by 10 at 25-15.
Not wanting their season to end, the Lady Lakers gave the Lady Marshals a classic battle in the fourth game. Tied 5-5, a kill by Lowe lifted Calloway back in front and again a kill by Lowe at 7-7 gave the Lady Lakers the lead again. Knotted up four more times, Calloway took the lead at 12-11, stretching it out to 15-11 before the Lady Marshals pulled back to within one on a hit by Nelson.
Calloway continued to hold onto a one to two point lead before two straight kills by Sydney Nelson tied the game at 20-20 then gave the Lady Marshals the lead at 21-20. Marshall County would hold on to finish out the match with a 25-23 win to advance to play CFS in the 4th District Championship Thursday at CFS.
