Marshall Detective Graduates From Kentucky Criminalistics Academy

BENTON, KY – In an effort to provide the best service to the community through educating its officers the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce a detectives recent graduation from the Kentucky Criminalistics Academy.

The sheriff’s office strives to provide training to its officers in order to exercise the best service possible within the community. Following this endeavor, Marshall County Sheriff Kevin Byars is proud to announce that Detective Lieutenant Matt Hilbrecht has graduated from the Kentucky Criminalistics Academy.

The graduation was held at the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training facility in Richmond. Twelve detectives from across the state graduated from the program. Lieutenant Hilbrecht is the supervisor over the investigations department at the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office where he has served for 16 years.

The academy is a ten week program with five weeks occurring in the first part of the year and five weeks in the second part of the year. The program totals 400 hours of training for the officer.

The Kentucky Criminalistics Academy Crime Scene Technician Course (Phase-1) is an intensive five week training program designed to meet the needs of Kentucky Law Enforcement Agencies in the areas of evidence identification, collection and preservation.

The training consist of 200 hours of Kentucky Law Enforcement Council approved curriculum. The Crime Scene Technician course is formatted for classroom instruction, lab activities and field practical exercises in the various specialized areas. Students complete practical exams to show competency in the various subjects. The goal of the course is to provide the crime scene investigator with the most recent crime scene investigative techniques and technology available today.

The KCA is formatted for classroom instruction, lab activities, and field practical in the various specialized areas. Academy students will complete both written and practical exams to show competency in the various subjects.
