Marshals compete among Kentucky elites at Fast Cats Classic

OWENSBORO – Marshall County’s cross country team traveled to Owensboro Saturday for the Fast Cats Classic at Yellow Creek Park. Hosted by Daviess County High School, the event draws top teams and runners from all over the state.

Top finishers for the Marshals came from Spring Dolbee who finished 88th in the girl’s varsity race, Jackson Yates crossed in 56th in the boy’s varsity race, Alexia Minter placed 9th in the girl’s middle school race and the big win of the day came from Ethan McCarty who took 1st in the boy’s middle school race.

Kate Rhoads from Daviess County won the girl’s varsity race in 18:51.65 helping to lead her team to a first place finish. Spring Dolbee’s 88th place finish was clocked at 22:21.28 in a field of 224 runners. More Marshall County finishes placing in the top 200 came from Bailey Sandlin- 160th, Valerie Shutt 166th and Haley Ford- 196th. Also finishing for the Lady Marshals was Sarah Knoth, Alisha Compton and Sarah Thompson.

Mitchael Shelton of Webster County took first in the boy’s varsity race in 16:15.51 and the team from Madisonville North Hopkins took first out of 29 teams with the Marshals placing 22nd.

Jackson Yates finishing time was 18:08.90 joined by five more Marshals cracking the top 200 in the field of 275 included Joseph Reed- 105th, Matt Ray- 135th, Kyle McClain- 166th, Jackson Reed- 171st and Jacob Hainaut- 190th. Also racing for the Marshals was Alex Colburn, Michael Bolen, Austin Bolen and Dallyn Turner.

Alexia Minter and Tarryn Story led the way for Marshall’s middle school girl’s finishing 9th and 11th in the 3,000 meter race. Minter finished in 13:07.84 and Story stopped the clock at 13:20.83. More Marshall finishes included Jada Driver- 26th, Sydney Reed- 34th, Maggie Edwards- 39th and Larissa Holt- 40th. Owensboro won the team title and Marshall Middle placed fourth.

Ethan McCarty first place finish in the boy’s middle school race was timed at 10:48.04 in a field of 152 runners. Six more middle school boys placed in the top 100 including Darren Jackson- 12th, Samuel Lanham- 13th, Mason Cosner- 24th, Thomas McLean- 71st, Christian Cosner- 81st and Parker Kerrick- 97th. Also finishing for the boy’s middle school team was Jack Burkeen, Eli Jones, Avery Minter and Zach Artis.

The team will compete in a McCracken County race on Saturday at Noble Park.
